The staff of the Language Learning Center are here to support and collaborate with faculty in the use of technology for language learning, whether it is in our computer labs or on a special project. Here are some of our resources for faculty:
Labs and Lab Reservations
To reserve a lab, please contact the checkout desk at 505-277-3106 or stop by. It is recommended that instructors reserve their preferred computer lab, time, and date prior to the date of use to ensure the availability of the lab. Please determine which lab will best serve your needs:
Film Library
The LLC has a large Film Library. To check out a film or to put a film on reserve for your students, contact the checkout desk at 505-277-3106 or stop by.
Film & Media Requests
If you want to request movies, music or audiobooks for use in your class that we do not already own, you can Request Film & Media Resources online. Purchases are made based on budgetary considerations.
Equipment Checkout
The LLC has CD players, speakers, Mac adapters (for all types of Mac computers and laptops), a digital projector, overhead projectors, iPods, voice recorders, stereo USB headphones for recording, video carts (TV, VCR, DVD player), and multi-system carts (TV, VCR, DVD player). Please check these out at the checkout counter. You will need to supply a valid ID (Lobocard, driver's license or passport) and fill out an Equipment Checkout Agreement before checking our any equipment.
We also offer camcorders for checkout by instructors. To check out these, contact Leslie Sandoval at least 24 hours prior to the time needed. We will train faculty and TAs how to use the equipment. Borrowers will be required to sign an equipment checkout waiver in advance.
Speaker Series
Periodically LLC will host a guest speaker. The series is geared primarily toward faculty, TAs and researchers involved in language learning. Please see our Speaker Series page for more information. View past events at our YouTube Channel.
Media Transfer
We will copy VHS and digital tape to DVD for classroom use. Please give us plenty of time to do this (a week is preferred). Contact Leslie Sandoval.
Special Projects
We would love to work with faculty and TAs in developing special projects, such as multimedia, video, audio, or web-based programs. Please keep us in mind as you plan. We are happy to collaborate in the grant writing process for such projects.
SLO Workshop - This presentation on how to write Student Learning Objectives also has links to many fine resources.
The LLC has a "SkypeMobile"! Our SkypeMobile uses an interactive TV (46") on a rolling cart, which can be moved to any area in the LLC. Perfect for Skyping with your whole class! It also has Netflix (use your own account), and YouTube, which has higher quality video than a using a traditional projection system.
To use the SkypeMoblie, just make a reservation in one of the labs (Labs 1 and 2 are ideal) and specify that you will need the Skypemobile. You will probably also want to reserve a lab for testing prior to your class. We will do the testing for you. You need to supply us with the Skype name and what features you will need. Make sure the person you are Skyping with is available for both the class and the testing session. If you have any questions contact Leslie Sandoval.
