The Hub

The Hub is the center of the LLC. It is an open space with room for students to study, print, get technical help, or just hang out and drink coffee. The lab attendants are located here at the front desk and can help students and instructors who have questions or need to check out films or equipment. There are two printers connected to all LLC computers. To print students need to make sure they have funds on their Lobo ID. There is also a scanner - bring your own flash drive to save your scans! The Hub also has a mobile device charger.

Collaborative Classrooms

LLC's collaborative classrooms (Labs 1, 2, 4, and 6) are ideal for active, team-based work. All classrooms are equipped with a Crestron smart instructor station, DVD/VHS player wth capabliity to play multi-region DVDs & VHSs, and document cameras (in Labs 1 and 2). Each has whiteboards and huddleboards - small, mobile whiteboards - which are great collaborative tools. All classrooms seat up to 30 students.

Lab 1 has large HD monitors instead of a projection screen. The LLC offers a Skypemobile (lower left), ideal for large classrooms.

Lab 2 has mobile tables that can be reconfigured for different activities. There are no computers in this classroom, but they are available upon request.

Sign Lab

The Sign Lab is used primarily for students in the Signed Language Interpreting Program. The Signed Language Interpreting Program of the Department of Linguistics is one of only 14 accredited programs for Bachelor Degrees in the U.S. The LLC is one of the few language centers in the country to have a dedicated Sign Lab. Students attend classes here and use the lab to practice American Sign Language and interpreting skills, recording their activities for practice, review and testing. The Sign Lab seats 15 students.

Open Lab

The Open Lab is a study area just for language students. It has eleven computers, six of which have Adobe Creative Suite. It has a variety of seating: one four-top and two two-top tables, a lounge, several privacy chairs, footstools, mobile whiteboards and room dividers. Students are encouraged to move the furniture in a way that suits their needs. The Open Lab is open whenever the LLC is.

Movie Room

Our movie room is designed rather like a den, for small groups (~15 or fewer) to watch movies and socialize. Its cobalt blue walls and artwork made out of old signs and equipment from its laboratory days gives it a vibrant but relaxing feel.

Surrounding the 60” TV, there is a large black faux leather sectional sofa with two ottomans and a huddleboard. When not in use for group activities, students find this room a quiet place to study. The movie room also functions well for virtual conversations and activities, such as virtual dinners, and real-time conversation groups.
